Elizabeth Stuart

Biography

Mezzo-Soprano Elizabeth Stuart was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She also studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. She has been a frequent guest artist in northeastern Ohio, soloing with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Suburban Symphony Orchestra and the Music and Performing Arts Orchestra at Trinity Cathedral.

In June of 2000 Ms. Stuart premiered Song in Sorrow by composer Augusta Read Thomas to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Kent State University campus shootings with The Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Jahja Ling. Ms. Stuart’s opera credits include the Princess in Kenley Players production of The Student Prince and the world premiere in the role of Rowena in Sebastian Birch’s Ligeia based on the Edgar Allen Poe short story of the same name.

Ms. Stuart made her Chicago debut in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series broadcast live over Chicago classical station, WFMT and most recently premiered the works of Icelandic composers on the Cleveland Museum of Art MuseArt Series. She is a Principal Mezzo Soprano Soloist at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland, most recently soloing in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion.

Ms. Stuart resides in Mayfield Heights with her daughter, Alexandra and teaches voice at the Solon Center for the Arts.
